Jacina Leong is a MA (Research) student with the Urban Informatics Research Lab and the Public Programs Curator at The Cube. The aim of her research project is to contribute to early developments of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) educational practices, by developing a propositional model for learning and teaching through these networks in urban environments.

Her research is deeply connected with her professional practice as a designer of STEAM learning engagement programs at The Cube, Queensland University of Technology. In this role, she develops and manages a hands-on STEAM program for school and university students, educators, and the broader community. The Cube’s STEAM program involves key collaborations with local, national and international organisations.

Before joining The Cube, Jacina worked at the Ipswich Art Gallery, developing and facilitating experiential, play-based, and learner-centred arts education programs for children (ages 0 – 16 years) and families. She has also worked at the Creative Industries Precinct, Queensland University of Technology, implementing a cross-disciplinary engagement program for university students. Both of these experiences, founded on the principles of informal learning, have informed her current practice and research interests.

Jacina has spoken professionally at the VIVID Festival, Sydney, and is currently on the advisory panel of the inaugural Make Nice un-conference for creative women (Sydney).
