Geremy Farr-Wharton

Geremy Farr-Wharton is a PhD student at the Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. After completing his Bachelors of Information Technology degree in 2006, he found himself having a keen interest in smart technologies and pervasive computing that he wished to explore further. In 2007, he began his honours degree with his thesis exploring the factors that affect the adoption of smart technology in the Australia agricultural industry, working with partners such as the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Research Organization (CSIRO), the Cotton Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) and Telstra Countrywide. He was awarded his honours degree at the conclusion of 2008.

After working with Queensland Health exploring web technologies for several years, Geremy once again returned to university to begin his PhD. His field of interest explores the integration of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) into sustainable food culture, working towards a more sustainable future for society. His PhD’s focus is specifically investigating and analysing how to integrate HCI into different phases of the food cycle in order to reduce the amount of waste caused from the food itself, packaging, and transportation. The overall intent of the study is to explore innovative HCI designs that will allow technologies to help reduce the amount of waste being produced throughout different phases of the food cycle; increase the sustainability of food production and consumption; and finally, increase the consumption of healthier foods.
